On 13 May 2025, I was invited by Ms Natalie Mellish of the Salvation Army Centaline Charity Fund Queen’s Hill School (SACCFQHS) to speak to her Primary 4 and 5 students about how they too, can write a book. I was delighted to be able to share the stage with librarian extraordinaire, Beth McNeilly, and to introduce my most recent early reader, The Fox and the Tiger from Oxford University Press. Beth and I demonstrated how easy it is to write a book – even if it could take years in the making – if only one knew the tricks of catching ideas and creating a compelling story. The enthusiastic and engaged students helped us come up with an exciting, on-the-spot story, SPACE RACE, featuring May, the calm cat, and Jake, the competitive dog. So humbled and grateful to have the opportunity to meet the energetic students and caring teachers of this lovely school, and reminded by events like these why I love being a children’s writer and writing for younger readers. Looking forward to the next one!
